Job Title: Healthcare Assistant
Reports To: Senior Carer / Registered Manager
Purpose of the Role
The Healthcare Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality, person-centred care and support to individuals in accordance with best practice, organisational policies, and relevant legislation. The role focuses on promoting independence, dignity, wellbeing, and choice while ensuring that service users receive safe and effective care tailored to their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver care and support in line with agreed care plans, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Place service users at the centre of all care activities, respecting their wishes, preferences, and individual needs.
- Encourage and support service users to maintain independence, personal interests, skills, and social connections.
- Contribute positively to the effective operation of the service.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care and support provided.
- Report any changes in a service user’s health, wellbeing, or support requirements to the Senior Carer or Manager.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all individuals receiving support.
- Seek guidance and support whenever necessary to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
- Comply with all organisational policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Participate in ongoing learning, development, and mandatory training activities.
Personal Care Support
Provide assistance with personal care activities, including:
- Bathing and showering
- Assisted washing
- Oral hygiene
- Toileting support
- Catheter care
- Hair care and grooming
Domestic Support
Assist with light household duties, including:
- Making beds
- Cleaning bathrooms
- General household cleaning
- Vacuuming
- Emptying waste bins
- Dusting
- Laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding, and storing clothing
Medication Support
- Administer or assist with medication in accordance with organisational policies, procedures, and training received.
Travel Requirements
- Travel between service users’ homes as required, including during adverse weather conditions.
- Accurately use any electronic or manual attendance monitoring systems where applicable.
Working with Others
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and professionals.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve the best outcomes for service users.
- Support service users in maintaining relationships with family members, friends, and others who are important to them, where desired.
