Refuse Driver (Grade 4) – Building Services & Maintenance (HGV Class 2)
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week, Monday to Sunday on a Rota Basis (Shifts up to 10 Hours Per Day)
Contract: 12 Week Temporary Contract

Rate: PAYE: £13.26 per hour | Umbrella/Limited Company: £17.10 per hour

About the Role
We are recruiting a Refuse Driver (Grade 4) – Building Services & Maintenance (HGV Class 2) to support the Council's Waste & Cleansing team. This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of waste collection and recycling services. You will be responsible for operating a Class 2 HGV hook-lift vehicle, carrying out waste collection duties, supporting operations at the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), and promoting safe recycling practices while maintaining compliance with health and safety standards.
What You'll Be Doing
- Driving and operating a Class 2 HGV hook-lift vehicle safely and efficiently
- Carrying out waste collection and recycling duties as required
- Assisting with cleaning duties at the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC)
- Providing guidance to residents on correct recycling procedures
- Monitoring recycling activities to help ensure site compliance
- Following all health and safety procedures and company policies at all times
- Completing any other duties appropriate to the role
Requirements
We are seeking reliable and safety-conscious HGV drivers with a commitment to delivering high-quality waste and recycling services.
You'll ideally have:
- A valid HGV Class 2 driving licence (essential)
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- An up-to-date CV
- Criminal Convictions Declaration
- Minimum of two years' employment references/work history
- Ability to work a Monday to Sunday rota
- Good understanding of health and safety practices
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or environmental services (desirable)
- Experience operating hook-lift vehicles (desirable)
- Good communication and customer service skills (desirable)
