Homeless Prevention Housing Officer
About the Role
We're recruiting for a Homeless Prevention Housing Officer to join a busy local authority team.
This is a frontline role where you'll support residents at risk of homelessness, providing advice, interventions, and solutions to help them remain in stable accommodation.
You'll manage your own caseload and work closely with internal teams, landlords, and external agencies to deliver positive outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Assess housing needs via face-to-face, phone, and home visits
- Provide housing advice and support to prevent homelessness
- Manage homelessness applications in line with legislation
- Liaise with landlords, lenders, and support services
- Negotiate solutions including tenancy sustainment and private housing options
- Support clients through legal processes, including court attendance where required
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners
- Arrange and coordinate temporary accommodation where necessary
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with housing law
Requirements:
- Experience in homelessness prevention / housing advice within a local authority
- Strong knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
- Experience managing a caseload independently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals and complex cases
Desirable:
- CIH qualification or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of welfare benefits and tenancy law
- Experience working with multi-agency teams
