Main duties of the job
We are seeking a motivated and patient-focused Pharmacy Technician to join our practice team. The successful candidate will support the safe, effective and efficient use of medicines, working closely with GPs, clinical pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. Key responsibilities include medicines optimisation, medication reviews, repeat prescription management, medicines reconciliation, supporting prescribing safety initiatives and responding to medication-related queries, helping to improve patient outcomes and the quality of care delivered by the practice.
Overview of our organisation
We are a large GP practice well established practice with very little turnover of staff. There is a family atmosphere at the practice where support for one another is encouraged as well as developing skills and internal promotion.
The Practice Clinical team consists of: 4 GP Partners /3 Salaried GP's /2 Registrars (GP's in Training) /2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners /2 Clinical Pharmacists /1 Nurse Manager /5 Practice Nurses / 2 HCA's. The clinical team is supported by Senior Management and Middle Management team, and 25 highly skilled administrators.
Person specification - Experience Desirable criteria
Previous experience working as a Pharmacy Technician within General Practice, a Primary Care Network (PCN) or another primary care setting. Experience of medicines optimisation and supporting medication reviews. Experience undertaking medicines reconciliation following hospital discharge or outpatient appointments. Experience processing and managing repeat prescriptions in line with prescribing protocols. Experience of working with clinical systems such as EMIS Web, SystmOne or similar healthcare software. Experience of identifying and resolving medication-related queries from patients and healthcare professionals. Experience supporting patients with long-term conditions and medication adherence. Experience carrying out audits, quality improvement initiatives or prescribing safety projects. Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Experience liaising with community pharmacies, secondary care providers and care homes. Knowledge of national prescribing guidance, medicines safety alerts and NHS medicines management processes. Experience providing training, advice or support to colleagues on medicines-related matters.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Good standard of education, including GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above. Knowledge of medicines management, clinical governance and patient confidentiality.
Desirable criteria
Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification. Medicines Optimisation or Primary Care Pharmacy qualification/training. Experience working within General Practice, Primary Care Network (PCN) or GP Federation settings. Qualification or training in medication review, long-term condition management or prescribing support. Leadership, mentoring or supervision training. Training in quality improvement, audit and clinical system reporting.
