We are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded Purchasing Assistant to join our purchasing team within an established UK manufacturer in Holme Upon Spalding Moor.
This is an exciting opportunity to keep a fast-moving manufacturing business supplied with the right raw materials and packaging, at the right quality, price and time.
Job Summary
Working closely with the Head of Purchasing and wider business, you will support the day-to-day purchasing operation whilst over time taking ownership of your own suppliers, materials and projects.
You will help ensure we have the products and materials we need to keep production running efficiently, while also looking for opportunities to improve costs, supply, quality and processes. In addition to this, you will have a keen eye for compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Purchasing and tendering for raw materials and packaging.
- Managing supplier relationships and performance.
- Raising and managing purchase orders and contracts.
- Monitoring stock levels, demand and lead times to ensure continuity of supply.
- Working with suppliers to negotiate pricing, lead times and terms.
- Supporting cost-saving and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identifying and resolving supply issues before they impact production.
- Working closely with Operations, Planning, Quality and Finance.
- Maintaining accurate purchasing and supplier information.
- Supporting new product, packaging and supplier projects.
- Actively involved in NPD projects.
- Pricing new business tenders
About You
We are looking for someone who has their own initiative, by taking ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do. They will be forward-thinking and commercially grounded. They will have confidence to question everything and challenge current processes and methods in the business.
Ideally, you will have experience within procurementwith an understanding of purchasing raw materials and strong background of packaging. You may already be working in a purchasing or procurement role or be looking for the next step in your career.
You will bring:
- Experience in purchasing, procurement or supply chain within manufacturing.
- Knowledge of raw materials and packaging.
- Strong commercial awareness and a focus on value.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Good organisation and attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise and work in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive approach and plenty of initiative.
- Confidence to challenge, question and find better ways of doing things.
- A genuine desire to develop and progress within purchasing.
