Role Purpose
The Café Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day daily operation and commercial success of The Fern and the Facility. You will lead a dedicated team to deliver exceptional service, maintain impeccable standards across the premises, and assist in the drive the commercial success of both the café and our Deeside private function room. You will be the face of the business, ensuring every guest receives a warm welcome while maintaining a sharp focus on the commercial performance of the site.
Key Responsibilities
1. Daily Operations & Team Leadership
Staff Management: Lead, mentor, and manage the front-of-house team. Responsibilities include managing staff rotas to ensure optimum coverage during peak trading and events, as well as working closely with the Manager.
Service Excellence: Oversee the front of house especially during busy periods to ensure service is efficient and professional. Interact with customers directly.
Conflict Resolution: Act as the first point of call for any customer enquiries or complaints, resolving issues immediately and effectively.
2. Facility Stewardship & Security
Building Management: Ensure the entirety of The Fern (including the Deeside function room and toilets) is cleaned to a high standard, well-maintained, and fully stocked with necessary supplies.
Duty of Care: Full responsibility for the security of the building, including opening and locking up the premises at the end of the day. Working closely with the Fern Manager to laisse on any events led by the Events Manager.
Health & Safety: Ensure strict adherence to UK Health & Safety legislation and Food Hygiene standards, maintaining all necessary logs and records.
3. Commercial Strategy & Business Growth
Sales Trends: Regularly analyse sales data to identify trends, manage inventory levels, and reduce wastage.
Business Development: Proactively promote The Fern and drive bookings for the function room, identifying local opportunities for growth and community engagement through the use of social media.
4. Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the UK hospitality, café, or restaurant sector.
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety and Food Hygiene regulations (Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene certification preferred).
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Commercial awareness with a track record of supporting sales growth and managing stock.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and evenings as required by business and event demands.
- Transport is required as there is no public transport to this location.
