Reports to: Catering Manager
Hornet Services Sailing Club is looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and experienced part-time chef to support the delivery of high-quality food for members, visitors and club events. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working in a friendly, small-team environment and can produce a range of well presented meals to a consistently high standard, whilst following excellent standards of food safety and kitchen organisation.
Hornet Services Sailing Club is a not-for-profit members’ club founded in 1964, with a lively clubhouse and a fully functional marina. The club is exclusively for serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces and supporting Civil Servants. The Club fosters a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and hosts a selection of large club functions throughout the year, alongside several private functions. The galley offers a seasonal day-to-day menu, as well as event catering from BBQs to formal silver-service dinners.
The successful candidate will be joining a friendly environment where catering plays an important role in delivering an excellent member experience.
Key responsibilities:
-Deliver the day-to-day menu to a high standard in a popular members’ club
-Liaise closely with the head chef/kitchen team to ensure seamless service and a positive member experience
-Monitor stock levels, rotate stock correctly, minimise waste and assist with ordering when required
-Maintain compliance with health and safety and food hygiene laws Deliver a consistently high standard of catering across a wide range of functions and events
-Report equipment faults, food safety concerns or supply issues promptly to the appropriate person

Skills & Experience -Essential:
-Previous experience working as a chef or cook
-Strong interpersonal skills
-Excellent organisational and communicative skills
-A proactive, hands-on approach
-Willing to learn and take direction
-Ability to work calmly under pressure during busy periods and events
-Ability to work independently and take responsibility for the kitchen during quieter shifts
-Practical cooking skills, including preparation, portion control and timing during service
-Reliable, punctual and flexible, with willingness to work additional hours as required
Desirable:
-Experience with stock control processes
-Food Hygiene Level 2 - knowledge of allergen management and cross contamination controls
