Role Summary
The Automatic Door Engineer is responsible for installing, servicing, maintaining and repairing automatic door systems at retail premises and other customer locations. The role involves attending planned and reactive service visits, diagnosing faults and ensuring all systems operate safely, reliably and in accordance with applicable standards, manufacturer instructions and company procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, commission, service, maintain and repair automatic door systems, including sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors.
- Work on associated components such as sensors, control units, motors, activation devices, safety equipment, access-control interfaces and emergency-release systems.
- Inspect automatic door systems, identify faults and carry out effective repairs within the Employee’s training and competence.
- Ensure doors remain secure and that any system which cannot be safely repaired is isolated, clearly labelled and reported to the appropriate person.
- Communicate professionally with store managers, employees, customers, contractors and members of the public.
- Explain identified faults, completed work and any further repairs or replacement parts required.
- Complete accurate service reports, inspection records, timesheets and other required documentation.
- Obtain customer or site representative approval and signatures for completed work where required.
- Follow all applicable health and safety requirements, risk assessments, method statements, manufacturer instructions and site rules.
- Work in accordance with applicable automatic-door safety standards and industry good practice.
- Use tools, access equipment, testing devices and machinery safely and only when trained and authorised to do so.
- Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment.
- Maintain safe working areas, including the appropriate use of barriers and warning signs in customer-facing retail environments.
- Maintain, inspect and take reasonable care of company tools, testing equipment, stock, vehicles, mobile devices and other property.
- Keep the company vehicle clean, secure and roadworthy, completing any required vehicle checks and promptly reporting defects.
- Participate in the company’s emergency call-out or out-of-hours rota where this forms part of the agreed employment arrangements.
- Keep technical knowledge current and follow relevant manufacturer updates and company procedures.
Skills and Experience
The Employee should have, or be willing to develop:
- Experience installing, servicing or repairing automatic doors or similar electrical and mechanical systems.
- Good electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
- The ability to read wiring diagrams, technical drawings and manufacturer instructions.
- The ability to use hand tools, power tools and electrical testing equipment safely.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- The ability to work independently, manage appointments and respond appropriately to changing priorities.
- A practical, careful and safety-conscious approach to work.
- Basic digital skills for completing electronic service reports and accessing assigned training.
- The ability to perform the physical duties of the role safely, including manual handling and working from suitable access equipment where required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A full, valid driving licence suitable for driving the company vehicle.
- Relevant industry qualifications, manufacturer training or recognised automatic-door certification where required for the work undertaken.
- Appropriate electrical, mechanical, access-equipment and health and safety training.
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
- Willingness to travel to retail premises and other customer locations within the assigned service area.
Pay: £38,610.00-£39,900.00 per year
