Location: Hertfordshire / North London base, with regular travel to live sites across Herts, Essex, London and the South East
The opportunity
Pyramid Eco is a retrofit and energy-efficiency contractor delivering insulation, ventilation and building-fabric work across Hertfordshire, Essex, London and the South East. We work for local authority grant schemes, housing associations, dioceses, charitable trusts and private commercial landlords.
We are lean team with a trusted subcontractor base, and we are at the point where demand has outgrown the way we currently run. Our pipeline is very strong and we have the opportunity to build out delivery capability to grow significantly.
This role exists to help us manage this. You will take full day-to-day ownership of how work gets delivered, invoiced and evidenced, so the business can scale on the back of the contracts we are already winning.
This is a genuine step-up role. If you are currently a strong number two, a contracts manager, an operations manager or a senior project manager who is ready to run a business unit end to end, this gives you that scope now rather than in five years.
What you will own
Delivery. Overseeing our project coordinator and Site Managers to ensure each job is delivered to the highest standards, on time and with excellent communication to the homeowners and clients.
Cash discipline. Making sure completed work is invoiced promptly and accurately, that applications and valuations go in on time, and that money owed is chased and collected. You'll be working with our external accountant, Group CFO and in-house team to oversee the financial management of the business.
Compliance and evidence. Our work is audited and our funding depends on the evidence being right, so this has to be systematic rather than reactive. You'll be working with our head of compliance and site managers to ensure this happens.
People. Line management of the project coordinator, compliance manager and site managers. Setting the standard, holding people to it, and running a weekly operating rhythm the whole team works to.
Growth capacity. As new contracts land, you will lead recruitment and management of additional site managers and installation teams, including in new geographies.
Subcontractors. Selecting, pricing, onboarding and performance-managing our subcontractor base, and holding them to our quality standard.
You do not need to be the most technically expert person on site. Our site managers and independent auditors provide the technical quality layer. You need to be able to hold them to a standard, read a programme, understand a cost, and know when something is not right.
Authority
You will have real decision-making authority from day one: over programming and scheduling, over subcontractor selection and performance, over hiring within an agreed headcount plan, and over how the operational side of the business is organised. You will have a defined spend authority and full visibility of project financials.
Who we are looking for
- Exceptionally organised. You run a system, you do not carry it in your head.
- Diligent about detail, particularly paperwork, evidence and numbers.
- Ambitious and hungry. You want to run something and grow it, not administer it.
- Hard-working and comfortable in a small business where you will sometimes do things yourself because there is nobody else to do them yet.
- Confident holding people to account, including experienced tradespeople and subcontractors.
- Comfortable with contracts, programmes, costs and margin.
Experience in retrofit, insulation, construction or building services is helpful but not essential. We would rather have an outstanding operator from an adjacent sector and teach them our industry than a mediocre one who already knows it. If you come from outside, expect a serious onboarding period and expect to learn fast.
Pay: £60,000.00-£80,000.00 per year
