Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week available
Working pattern: Monday to Friday, between 8:45am and 4:30pm
Contract: Self-employed
Pay: From £17 per hour, depending on experience
Start date: October 2026 (could be sooner)
About the role
AK Coaching is a growing local business delivering PE lessons and after-school sports clubs in primary schools.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and experienced Lead Sports Coach to join our team. You will deliver engaging and inclusive sports sessions, build positive relationships with schools and represent AK Coaching professionally.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering curriculum PE lessons and after-school clubs
- Planning safe, engaging and age-appropriate sessions
- Managing groups of primary school children confidently
- Adapting activities for different ages, abilities and needs
- Communicating professionally with teachers and school staff
- Following safeguarding procedures and individual school policies
- Completing registers and other required paperwork
- Looking after sports equipment
What we’re looking for
Applicants must have:
- Experience working with primary school-aged children
- Experience delivering PE lessons or sports clubs
- Strong group and behaviour-management skills
- A good understanding of safeguarding
- A reliable, professional and positive attitude
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Availability during school hours, Monday to Friday
Relevant coaching qualifications, first-aid training and an enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service would be advantageous.
The successful applicant will be required to provide satisfactory references and complete the appropriate enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks.
Hours and pay
This is a self-employed role with a minimum of 20 hours per week available, primarily during school term time. Pay starts from £17 per hour and will depend on experience and qualifications.
The successful coach will be responsible for their own tax, National Insurance and relevant self-employment requirements.
