GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Clinical Fellow (Equivalent of ST5+) in Paediatric Interventional Radiology
Applications are invited for a 1-year Paediatric Interventional Radiology (PIR) fellowship within the Interventional Radiology (IR) department at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This post is suitable for a ST5, or equivalent trainee, or someone looking to gain additional experience before taking up a consultant appointment.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare. In 2018/19 we received 237,908 outpatient visits and 43,218 inpatient visits, across 63 different clinical specialties, meaning GOSH offers the widest range of specialist health services for children on one site. In addition, GOSH is partnered with the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH) and is the largest paediatric centre in Europe dedicated to both clinical and basic scientific research. GOSH and UCL Great Ormond Street ICH have been awarded NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) status and are the only paediatric BRC in the UK.
The role is a 6 month post from February 2027 until August 2027. We would accept candidates wishing to work for 3 months. The role is available to SpRs with a local NTN who wish to gain specialist paediatric radiology experience with an interest in a career in Paediatric radiology. The interested candidates will need to apply for an OOPT from their local deanery.
The successful applicant will be part of a team of 4 subspecialty trainees in paediatric radiology, who work alongside 5 or 6 trainees rotating to GOSH as part of their general training from other sites. This is a full-time post with an on call commitment of 1 in 6/7
Trainees are encouraged to get involved in audit and research, and many high-quality audit studies, case reports and research studies have been carried out by trainees at GOSH over the past few years, resulting in prizes and publications.
Subspecialty trainees undergo regular educational supervision, and the training is tailored to their needs. Experience in general paediatric radiology, including A and E reporting and hip dysplasia sonography can be obtained through secondment to other sites in London, usually the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. We may also be able to provide subspecialist experience in interventional radiology, paediatric neuroradiology and nuclear medicine depending on the individual requirements.
GOSH is committed to recruiting the best person for the job, based solely on their ability and individual merit as measured against the criteria for the role; through a process that is fair, open, consistent and free from bias and discrimination.
