Positive Steps is seeking a male Support Worker to join a dedicated support team providing high-quality, person-centred care for two young men living in the Exeter area — one with an acquired brain injury, and the other with cerebral palsy and learning disabilities.
About the Role
You will be part of a consistent and supportive team focused on promoting independence, dignity, and emotional wellbeing. The role is varied, active, and rewarding, and includes:
- Supporting with daily routines and personal development
- Encouraging a healthy lifestyle and supporting with food-related behaviours
- Providing emotional reassurance and maintaining clear, consistent boundaries
- Supporting access to hobbies and activities including:
- Bowling, golf, surfing, gaming, technology
- Fishing and community activities
- Visits to an operating farm (including woodwork activities)
- Gym and spa sessions
- Physiotherapy appointments
- Supporting community access and daily living tasks
- Maintaining a structured, safe, and nurturing environment
One of our service users requires 2:1 support, while another is supported on a 1:1 basis. This means that at times you will be working alongside another support worker to ensure safety, consistency, and high-quality care. At other times, you will be providing one-to-one support, depending on the needs of the service and the individuals being supported.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience or understanding of Acquired Brain Injury (training provided)
- Experience supporting individuals with Cerebral Palsy and/or Learning Disabilities
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviours in a consistent and supportive way
- A full UK driving licence (preferred, though flexibility may be offered for the right candidate)
- The ability to maintain accurate, clear, and professional care records
- A genuine desire to support individuals to live fulfilling and meaningful lives

Important Information
Due to the nature of the role and the personal care needs of the individuals supported, this position is male-only, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 (Genuine Occupational Requirement).

Pay: £15.00-£15.50 per hour
