Senior Electrical Engineer
Altrad Babcock are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide technical expertise across electrical engineering activities, ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality engineering solutions. The role involves leading assigned electrical engineering work scopes, supporting project delivery, and providing technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
Key Deliverables:
- Technically responsible for all assigned Electrical Engineering work, including delegation of supervision and checking activities to competent personnel where appropriate.
- Provide technical leadership and formulate resolutions for technically challenging and high-profile issues, escalating to the Lead Engineer, Consultant Engineer, or Project Engineering Manager when required.
- Review and check Electrical Engineering deliverables including Philosophies, Specifications, Schedules, Drawings, Diagrams, Datasheets, and Technical Requisitions.
- Identify and resolve technical discrepancies and deviations from original proposals or contracts through technical query management with clients and project teams.
- Perform cable sizing and electrical calculations using ETAP software, understanding and applying the required design parameters.
- Perform cable sizing and electrical calculations using Trimble (Amtech) software and interpret outputs for reporting and design verification purposes.
- Identify and specify protective devices and ensure appropriate discrimination within power distribution networks.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and provide technical support during testing activities.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary Engineering Design Reviews and provide Electrical Engineering input to close out design actions.
- Define Electrical Engineering scopes of work and prepare Master Document Registers (MDRs).
- Plan and schedule Electrical Engineering activities, resource requirements, deliverables, and man-hour allocations.
- Provide regular project controls and reporting information to Project Management teams.
- Support Procurement activities through preparation of Technical Requisitions, review of vendor documentation, and Technical Bid Evaluations.
- Ensure engineering designs comply with client specifications and identify opportunities for cost-effective improvements.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with ISO quality procedures, Project Quality Plans, and Design Integrity processes.
- Maintain and control Electrical Engineering technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of HV and LV electrical systems.
- Perform related duties as directed by the E, C&I Group Manager.
Key Requirements:
- BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' engineering experience, including at least 3 years within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical, or related process industries.
- Experience in Electrical Engineering design office environments and field engineering activities.
- Strong knowledge of HV and LV electrical system design, commissioning, and associated calculations.
- Experience in power distribution system design.
- Proficient in HV/LV cable sizing and design using ETAP and/or Trimble (Amtech) software.
- Understanding of electrical protection systems and network discrimination studies.
- Knowledge of British Standards, international engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience managing and controlling Electrical Engineering technical documentation.
- Construction and commissioning site experience.
- Well-developed understanding of matrix management systems and organisational structures.
- Strong organisational, planning, and time management skills.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
- Strong IT skills, including engineering software, databases, and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
