CHP Plant Operator – Engineering Qualification Required
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Plant Operator to join our team. This is a skilled technical role responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of a wood‑chip gasification CHP plant.
Applicants must hold a recognised UK engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3+, City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent) and have experience working with industrial plant, power generation, or mechanical/electrical systems. Applications without these qualifications will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control CHP plant operations, including engine performance, heat recovery systems, and electrical generation output.
- Carry out routine inspections, planned maintenance, and first‑line repairs on plant equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical or electrical faults promptly to minimise downtime.
- Maintain accurate operational records, including production data, maintenance logs, and safety documentation.
- Ensure full compliance with safety procedures, environmental regulations, and operational standards.
- Support continuous improvement projects and plant optimisation initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with the plant team to maintain safe and reliable operations.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ Level 3+ or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Plant Engineering.
- Experience in CHP, power generation, boilers, turbines, industrial plant, or similar heavy engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, combustion, and electrical systems.
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical plant, heat exchangers, and engine maintenance.
- Ability to interpret digital readouts, SCADA screens, and performance charts.
- Proven troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently and within a small team.

Hours of Work
4 on / 4 off shift pattern.
