Job Purpose
To perform chemical, physical and metallurgical testing of atomised metal powders, brazing alloys and brazing pastes to support product release, process control, customer requirements and continuous improvement activities.
The role is responsible for generating accurate laboratory data, maintaining laboratory equipment and supporting investigations into quality, process and customer-related issues. The position plays a critical role in ensuring products meet internal, customer and industry requirements before release.
Key Responsibilities
Product Testing & Release
· Perform laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process materials and finished products.
· Conduct particle size distribution (PSD) analysis using approved methods.
· Perform chemical analysis using ICP and other analytical equipment.
· Complete physical and visual testing in accordance with internal and customer specifications.
· Review and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
· Support product certification and release activities.
Laboratory Operations
· Prepare and manage laboratory samples.
· Operate, maintain and verify laboratory equipment.
· Assist with calibration and routine equipment checks.
· Maintain laboratory records and test reports.
· Ensure traceability of samples, test results and certification data.
Quality & Compliance
· Follow laboratory procedures, specifications and quality requirements.
· Support compliance with ISO 9001 and customer requirements.
· Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement activities.
· Assist in the development and improvement of laboratory methods and procedures.
Technical Support & Investigation
· Support investigations into customer complaints and non-conforming products.
· Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
· Provide technical testing support to Production, Engineering, Commercial and Quality teams.
· Support new product and process development activities through laboratory testing and analysis.
Health, Safety & Environment
· Work safely in accordance with company procedures and risk assessments.
· Maintain laboratory housekeeping standards.
· Ensure safe handling of chemicals, powders and laboratory equipment.
Essential Requirements
· Experience working within a manufacturing or laboratory environment.
· Good understanding of laboratory testing principles.
· Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
· Ability to interpret specifications and test methods.
· Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements
· HNC/HND or Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Engineering or related discipline.
· Experience with ICP-OES chemical analysis.
· Experience with particle size analysis and laboratory testing equipment.
· Knowledge of metal powders, brazing alloys or advanced materials.
· Knowledge of ASTM, AMS or customer specifications.
· Experience working within an ISO 9001 environment.

Hours of work:- 38 hours per week
08.00 – 16.30 (Monday to Thursday)
08.00 – 14.30 (Friday) with 30 minutes unpaid lunch breaks on each day
Salary:- dependent on experience
25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
(increasing by 1 loyalty day every 5 years service to a total of 5 additional days)
Company pension after 3 months – 5% employer, 4% employee contribution
