About the Role
As a Solution Architect, you will lead the strategic definition and articulation of architectural vision for significant central government programmes. You will translate complex business requirements and policy objectives into actionable, enterprise-level architectural designs, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, secure, and align with government digital standards and strategic goals.
This pivotal role requires a strategic leader who thrive in fast paced environments with a deep understanding of Cloud native technologies (AWS, Google, Azure etc), SaaS products (Salesforce, Dynamics etc), GDS Service Standard, a proven track record in the public sector, and a passion for driving digital transformation to serve the public effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Architectural Leadership: Lead the definition and articulation of architectural vision and strategy for major central government programmes and projects. Translate high-level business requirements and policy objectives into detailed, actionable architectural designs and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with client strategic goals, government digital standards (e.g., GDS Service Standard), and security policies (e.g., NCSC guidelines).
- Solution Design and Development Oversight: Design end-to-end enterprise-level solutions encompassing applications, data, infrastructure, security, and integration layers. Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, platforms, and vendors, considering cost-effectiveness, scalability, security, and maintainability within a public sector context. Oversee the technical design and development lifecycle, providing architectural guidance and assurance to delivery teams, ensuring adherence to design principles and standards, including the effective use of open-source components and cloud-native development practices.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Advisory: Facilitate workshops and discussions with diverse stakeholder groups (business, technical, security, policy) to elicit requirements and build consensus around architectural decisions. Manage expectations and communicate architectural trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, building relationships with senior stakeholders across multiple business or technical areas.
- Architectural Governance and Assurance: Establish and implement architectural governance processes, standards, and best practices across projects and programmes. Conduct architectural reviews, health checks, and assurance activities to ensure solutions are fit for purpose, secure, and compliant with relevant regulations and standards. Identify and mitigate architectural risks, proactively addressing potential issues related to performance, security, integration, and scalability, particularly in cloud-based and open-source environments.
- Team Leadership and Capability Building: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of architects and technical specialists, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Contribute to the firm's architectural capability development, sharing knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned across engagements, and supporting multiple architecture projects or programmes.
- Business Development and Growth: Contribute to pre-sales activities, including developing compelling proposals, presenting solutions to prospective clients, and shaping new opportunities within the central government sector. Identify emerging technology trends and assess their potential applicability and impact on central government clients, proactively identifying opportunities to improve the organisation and developing best practices for solution architecture.
Your professional experience
You will possess extensive experience working with or within central government, demonstrating a deep understanding of its unique operating models and digital transformation challenges. You will be a proven architectural leader capable of designing and overseeing complex, enterprise-scale solutions, with a strong technical breadth and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Essential:
- Central Government Domain Expertise: Proven experience working extensively with or within central government departments, understanding their unique operating models, policy drivers, and digital transformation challenges.
