Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Appropriate Adult to support young people and vulnerable adults during age assessment processes in Irvine, Scotland. This role involves working closely with local authorities and safeguarding teams to ensure individuals' rights and needs are prioritised. The successful candidate will play a vital part in safeguarding procedures, providing reassurance, and facilitating fair assessments. This position is based in Warwick and is ideal for individuals with an interest in social care, safeguarding, or youth support. All roles are paid, including internships, offering valuable experience within the community services sector.
Duties
- Support young people and vulnerable adults during age assessment interviews, ensuring they feel safe and supported throughout the process
- Act as a neutral and reassuring presence, helping individuals understand the procedures and their rights
- Liaise with social workers, legal representatives, and other professionals involved in the assessment process
- Maintain accurate records of interactions and observations in accordance with organisational policies
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
- Attend training sessions to stay informed about relevant legislation, safeguarding protocols, and best practices in supporting vulnerable individuals
- Assist in preparing documentation or reports related to age assessments as required
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with young people and vulnerable adults
- Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and confidentiality requirements
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sensitive situations professionally
- Organised with good attention to detail for record keeping and documentation
- Previous experience or knowledge of social care, youth work, or legal processes related to age assessments is desirable but not essential
- A compassionate approach combined with a non-judgemental attitude is essential for success in this role
- An enhanced DBS is required for this role.
