Vacancy Overview –
At Family First, we believe everyone matters. As an Apprentice Early Years Practitioner, you will play an important role in helping children, families and colleagues feel seen, valued, included and supported, while developing your own skills, confidence and sense of belonging within our team.
Main responsibilities:
§ Assist team members in providing the highest standards of compliance, care and education for children 0-5 years
§ Model positive behaviour and professional standards, including punctuality, appearance, attitude and use of appropriate language.
§ Ensure that the nursery is a safe, clean and healthy environment for children, team members and others
§ Maintain confidentiality when handling information about children, families, colleagues and the nursery.
§ Build positive relationships with children, helping them to feel seen, valued and important, while supporting their confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.
§ Start to build professional partnerships with parents to increase their involvement in their children’s learning and development, promoting inclusive practice and ensuring every child and family feels welcomed, respected, valued and supported as an important part of our community.
§ Attend all training days, webinars, and meetings with your coach / assessor – ensuring the apprenticeship is completed within the timeframe agreed.
§ Share agreed training plan with you mentor and the management team to enable accurate rostering – ensuring effective deployment of team members.
§ Carry out delegated tasks and ask for guidance if you are unsure or do not feel confident completing them, recognising that asking for support is an important part of learning and growth.
Main activities:
§ Follow Family First policies and procedures in your day-to-day work. If you have a concern, use professional curiosity, ask questions and seek support from your mentor or buddy.
§ Build your knowledge of the legal requirements that apply to your role. These are covered in the apprenticeship programme and include the Statutory Framework, Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire Safety, Food Hygiene and other relevant guidance.
§ Keep your safeguarding and child protection knowledge up to date. Be alert to any changes in a child or colleague that may cause concern and make sure you understand how to report concerns confidentially and appropriately. Your training provider will also share their safeguarding and wellbeing helpline.
§ Contribute to observations and learning records as your knowledge and confidence develop, with support from the team.
§ Take part fully in the apprenticeship programme to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to achieve your qualification.
§ Stay organised and take an active approach to your learning. Keep up to date with apprenticeship tasks, log off-the-job learning regularly, complete progress reviews and scorecards, and let your assessor know when you are on holiday.
§ If study, work or daily tasks begin to feel overwhelming, speak to your mentor or buddy so they can help you find a way forward. Use weekly check-ins to reflect on what has gone well, what has been challenging and what you can learn for next time.
§ Take ownership of your apprenticeship. This is your learning journey, and support will be available throughout to help you work towards your qualification.

· Any part-time paid employment, weekends, evenings.
· Work experience within an Early Years setting, nursery or school
· Positive outlook and can-do approach

· Able to use own initiative
· Understanding of being a member of a team and the role you would play in that team
· Willingness to learn
· Basic IT skills
· Experience of creating and writing reports (school projects)
Pay: £10.35 per hour
