Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Leicester City Council’s legal services. We are looking for a confident self-motivated individual who can provide high quality legal advice to the Council in relation to a range of challenging matters.
You’ll work in a supportive environment with a well-established team, having your own varied caseload of commercial, contract and general local government law matters.
This is a permanent, full time position working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. You’ll be based at City Hall.
What you’ll be doing
As a Legal Officer, you'll support the Head of Law in delivering high-quality, client-focused and cost-effective legal services to the Council and other public sector partners. Working within the Commercial and Contracts team, you'll provide legal support and advice on a range of Commercial and Contract Law matters, including Public Procurement, helping services achieve their objectives while ensuring legal compliance and good governance.
You'll manage your own caseload of routine and moderately complex matters, carrying tasks through from instruction to completion. This will include conducting legal research, drafting contracts and other legal documents, providing practical legal advice, and working closely with clients across the Council to deliver effective solutions.
You'll develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, ensuring legal services are responsive, professional and aligned with corporate priorities. You'll also support and provide guidance to paralegal colleagues within the team, sharing knowledge and helping to maintain high standards of service delivery.
What you’ll need
You'll have strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information, identify practical solutions and deliver work to a high standard. Organised and self-motivated, you'll be comfortable managing a varied caseload, prioritising competing demands and working to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
You'll be resilient under pressure, adaptable to changing priorities and committed to achieving service objectives while meeting the needs of clients and the wider organisation. Excellent relationship-building skills are essential, as you'll work closely with colleagues, clients and external partners, representing Legal Services in a professional, positive and customer-focused manner.
You'll bring some knowledge of Commercial and Contract Law and be keen to develop your expertise in this area. Strong IT skills are also essential, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and case management systems, enabling you to work efficiently and maintain accurate records.
