This is an exciting opportunity to join the Sustainability Team within the Corporate Services division at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you will play a key role in driving the Trust’s sustainability agenda, supporting the delivery of the Board-approved Green Plan and Travel Plan. The team is responsible for improving energy efficiency, environmental performance, and sustainability outcomes across the Trust, including carbon reduction initiatives, sustainable travel, waste management, and biodiversity.
As Sustainability Coordinator, you will lead the implementation of sustainability initiatives across the organisation, using data, bench-marking tools, and analytical approaches to identify opportunities for improvement and track progress. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners, including statutory bodies, supply chain, procurement, waste services, and transport providers, to ensure effective and compliant service delivery.
You will also provide strategic and operational support, helping to embed environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across the Trust while identifying opportunities for resource efficiency and cost savings.

The base site is Southend, but cross-site working is required.
Support delivery of the Trust’s sustainability agenda by collecting, validating and reporting accurate data to monitor progress against the Green Plan.
Analyse and interpret sustainability metrics to identify trends, opportunities for improvement and resource efficiency savings.
Engage with stakeholders across the Trust and wider system, including clinicians, managers, site leads and external partners, to support sustainability initiatives.
Collaborate closely with the Sustainability Team and MSE Integrated Care System (ICS) to align local and system‑wide objectives.
Maintain and update relevant sections of the sustainability workplan, including tracking progress, achievements and emerging project opportunities.
Lead and support projects with a specific focus on travel planning and sustainable transport initiatives.
Promote awareness and engagement in sustainability practices across departments, encouraging behavioural change and innovation.
Contribute to the development of new ideas and initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency across the organisation.
