Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter Chargehand to oversee and execute complex piping installation and maintenance tasks within our facilities. The ideal candidate will possess extensive welding expertise, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to interpret schematics. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all operations. The position offers an opportunity to lead a team of technicians while contributing to vital construction and maintenance projects.
Duties
- Lead and supervise pipefitting activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications and safety standards
- Perform MIG, TIG, and general welding using welding techniques
- Read and interpret technical schematics and blueprints for piping layouts and systems
- Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised welding equipment to assemble, install, and repair piping systems
- Conduct soldering, plumbing, and maintenance tasks as required for various construction projects
- Assist with the assembly of mechanical components and systems using appropriate tools and techniques
- Carry out routine inspections of piping infrastructure to identify potential issues or failures
- Ensure all work complies with health & safety regulations and company policies
Experience
- Proven experience in MIG welding, TIG welding, and welding methods
- Strong understanding of schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings related to piping systems
- Mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in assembly, plumbing, and maintenance activities
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and other relevant machinery
- Background in construction or industrial environments with a focus on pipefitting or similar trades
- Basic maths skills for measurements, calculations, and technical documentation interpretation
- Experience leading or supervising teams as a Chargehand is preferred but not essential
