Grounds & Facilities Maintenance Operative including Winter Gritting

The Role
We are recruiting a Professional Maintenance Operative to support our commercial and managed property portfolio. This role suits an individual who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of presentation and reliability, and is comfortable working to clearly defined standards and site specifications.
You will be working across high-quality sites where punctuality, professionalism, and attention to detail are essential. Health and safety compliance is fundamental to this role. Operatives are expected to follow all company procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices at all times. The role includes year-round grounds maintenance, with additional responsibilities supporting our winter gritting operations during the winter months, to which you will be paid additionally for.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering high-quality mechanical grounds maintenance across commercial and managed sites
- Working in accordance with site specifications, risk assessments, and company procedures
- Operating and maintaining grounds maintenance machinery safely and responsibly
- Accurately recording completed works using a mobile reporting system, including photographs and written notes
- Maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools to a high standard
- Representing the company professionally when on client sites
- Working both independently and as part of a wider operational team
- Participating in a winter gritting and reactive call-out rota as required
Essential Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
- A full UK driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points
- The ability to travel independently to and from our depot in Lighthorne
- Confidence driving company vans
- Proven experience in grounds maintenance or a similar outdoor role
- Experience using mechanical grounds maintenance equipment
- A high standard of personal presentation and professionalism
- Excellent timekeeping and reliability
- Strong attention to detail and clear written reporting skills
- Confidence using a smartphone for work-related systems
- Physical fitness suitable for a demanding outdoor role
- Flexibility to start earlier than usual on some mornings where operationally required

Winter Gritting
The role includes participation in a winter gritting rota, which may involve early starts, evenings, weekends, and reactive call-outs during adverse weather conditions. Full training will be provided.
