The Role
The Kitchen & Food Preparation Chef is responsible for the daily preparation and production of fresh, high-quality food at Refuel. The role will focus on creating an exciting and consistent daily food offering, including sandwiches, bagels, salads, daily specials, and freshly baked products. The successful candidate will take pride in presentation, quality and attention to detail while ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and is maintained to an exemplary 5-star EHO food hygiene standard at all times.
Duties Include
Daily Food Preparation
- Prepare a daily selection of fresh grab and go products including sandwiches, bagels and salads
- Ensure all food is prepared to a consistently high standard of quality, freshness and presentation
- Prepare ingredients efficiently to support the daily service
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise food waste through effective preparation and portion control
- Ensure all food is correctly labelled, dated and stored
Daily Specials & Menu Development
- Create an appealing Special of the Day using fresh and seasonal ingredients
- Introduce new ideas and regularly refresh the Refuel food offering
- Work with management to develop dishes that are commercially viable, attractive to customers and aligned with the Refuel brand
- Monitor customer feedback and use it to improve the food offer
- Update and Maintain the company food bible of recipes to build consistency for dishes being presented
Baking
- Prepare and bake a selection of fresh products for daily sale
- Maintain consistent recipes, portion sizes, quality and presentation
- Explore new baking ideas and products to keep the offering interesting and commercially relevant
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Maintain the kitchen to an exemplary 5-star EHO standard at all times
- Follow all HACCP procedures, food safety policies and company hygiene standards
- Complete all required temperature, cleaning and food safety records accurately
- Ensure correct allergen management and prevent cross-contamination
- Maintain excellent personal hygiene and ensure appropriate PPE is worn
- Clean and sanitise equipment, work surfaces and food preparation areas throughout the day
- Ensure fridges, freezers, storage areas and dry stores are clean, organised and correctly managed
- Report any equipment, maintenance or food safety issues immediately to management
- Ensure the kitchen is left clean, organised and fully prepared for the following day's operation
Stock & Waste Management
- Check deliveries and ensure food products are stored correctly
- Monitor stock rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles
- Maintain accurate awareness of stock levels and communicate ordering requirements
- Minimise waste through effective preparation, portion control and creative use of ingredients
- Record and manage food waste in line with company procedures

General:
Dress code is professional attire and will be required to be worn at all times. Uniform will be provided.
Key Skills
- At least 2-3 years’ experience as a Café Chef, Breakfast Chef, Sous Chef or similar role
- Organised, efficient and have the ability to work under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Building relationships at all levels
- Great time management skills
- Proactive, driven and great attention to detail
- Previous management experience
Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
