Engine Workshop Technician – Cylinder Heads & Machine Shop

The Engine Room is looking for a mechanically experienced individual to join our specialist cylinder-head and engine machine shop team.
This is a workshop-based position focused on stripping, inspecting, preparing and rebuilding cylinder heads and engine components. It is not a general servicing, MOT or ramp-based mechanic role.
You do not need to be an experienced machinist. Training will be provided, but you must already have good mechanical knowledge, practical ability and the attention to detail required for precision engine work.
Your responsibilities
- Stripping and inspecting cylinder heads
- Cleaning and preparing cylinder heads and engine components
- Checking components for wear and damage
- Assisting with pressure testing and surface skimming
- Removing, inspecting and refitting valves
- Carrying out valve and valve-seat work
- Reassembling cylinder heads accurately
- Supporting other engine machining and rebuilding work
- Recording findings and completed work correctly
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working area
What we’re looking for
- Previous mechanical, automotive or engineering experience
- A practical understanding of engines and their components
- Good attention to detail and the ability to work accurately
- A reliable approach with good timekeeping and attendance
- The ability to follow technical instructions
- A willingness to learn specialist engine and machining skills
- Someone who takes responsibility for the quality of their work
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Useful but not essential
- Cylinder-head stripping or rebuilding experience
- Engine rebuilding experience
- Valve, valve-seat or pressure-testing experience
- Previous machine shop or precision engineering experience
- Experience using measuring equipment
