We are currently recruiting two Support Workers to join our team and provide 24-hour support on either Friday and Saturday (48 hour shift) or Sunday (24 hour shift) each week, for a man with a traumatic brain injury and multiple other health conditions, including Hypopituitarism, Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency, Hypothyroidism, partial sight, partial hearing loss and Vertigo. The client is based in Walkington, near Beverley. Applicants must be hard-working, resilient and a confident and experienced driver.
The role is likely to involve supporting the client displaying challenging or distressing behaviour and language. We are looking for someone who can remain calm, supportive and professional in these situations, with the resilience to manage emotional demands effectively.
The role includes supporting the client in his own home and the community with day-to-day activities, attending appointments and facilitating and enabling new hobbies and interests. The client requires support with organising his daily diary, cooking, shopping, administration and managing the home environment. Cleaning up after self and cleaning the support worker area will be mandatory during and at the end of every shift.
The right candidate will be calm, supportive, positive, confident, resilient and have a good understanding of person-centred support, with an emphasis on getting to know the client and working in a way which is unique to the individual. Applicants must have access to their own vehicle, and a full UK driving license.
Must be willing to complete at least two 24 hour shadow shifts with the client and current team before a final decision on recruitment is made.
The shift will start at 8:30am and end at 8:30am with the sleep shift starting approximately between 21:00 and 22:00.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the client in attending rehabilitation therapy sessions.
- Provide support with activities of daily living, including medication prompts and meal preparation.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging environment to enhance the client's well-being.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of the client at all times.
- Collaborate with rehabilitation professionals to implement a comprehensive care plan.
- Work under the instruction of the case manager and a multi-disciplinary team of therapists.
- Complete daily shift notes using OneNote.
- Provide day-to-day support and guidance.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in supporting individuals with brain injuries or similar conditions is advantageous.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and own a reliable car for transportation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Careful listener, responsive to client requests
