About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Fleet Vehicle Mechanic to maintain our fleet of approximately 25 light commercial vehicles to the highest standard, ensuring they remain safe, reliable and compliant.
Our fleet includes Ford Transit panel vans, Transit flatbeds, Ford Ranger pick-ups and 3.5-tonne Transit chassis cabs fitted with specialist 1,000-litre vacuum tanks, pumps and auxiliary generators.
We have recently introduced our first fully electric van as part of our long-term commitment to electrifying our fleet where operationally and commercially appropriate. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting this transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
- Complete repairs to engines, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and driveline components.
- Maintain specialist vacuum tank equipment, pumps, generators and associated ancillary systems.
- Prepare vehicles for statutory inspections.
- Carry out diagnostic testing using modern diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and service records.
- Help plan preventative maintenance to maximise vehicle availability.
- Liaise with suppliers and specialist repairers where required.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop.
- Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation and manufacturer standards.
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- At least five years' experience maintaining light commercial vehicles.
- Full UK Category B driving licence.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Experience working on Ford Transit, Ford Ranger or similar commercial vehicles.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Good communication and record-keeping skills.
Electric Vehicle Knowledge
Experience working on electric vehicles is desirable but not essential.
We have recently introduced our first electric vehicle and are committed to expanding our electric fleet where appropriate. Training will be provided to the successful candidate to develop the skills required to maintain electric vehicles safely and effectively.
Applicants who already hold, or are willing to work towards, IMI Electric/Hybrid Vehicle qualifications and High Voltage Safe Isolation training will be at an advantage.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- IMI Accreditation.
- F-Gas Air Conditioning Certification.
- MIG welding experience.
- Category C (Class 2) LGV Driving Licence with a valid Driver CPC.
- Experience maintaining specialist plant or vacuum tanker equipment.
- Tyre changing experience.
