Mechanical Quality Assurance engineer
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Quality Assurance engineerr* to join a major infrastructure project at Heathrow Airport, working on the airport's baggage handling system*.
This is an excellent opportunity to secure a long-term contract on a prestigious project, with work available through to December 2027.
Location: Heathrow Airport
Rate: £350–£450 per day
Duration: Until December 2027
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00
Essential Criteria:
Mechanical / MEPH Background: Proven experience as a QA Engineer, Quality Inspector or Mechanical Engineer working on large-scale mechanical building services packages.
Infrastructure Experience: Prior experience working on major UK infrastructure schemes (e.g., rail, water, data centres, or aviation).
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of British Standards, building regulations, mechanical services compliance, HVAC systems, pipework installations, pressure testing, commissioning records and project assurance requirements.
Digital Tools: Proficiency in construction quality software such as Autodesk Build, BIM 360, or Fieldview.
Quality Compliance
Manage Project QMS: Implement the project-specific Quality Management Plan in line with ISO 9001 and Heathrow standards.
Review Technical Submittals: Approve Material Approval Requests (MARs) and review subcontractor Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
Inspection & Progressive Assurance
Site Inspections: Perform routine inspections of mechanical systems, plant, equipment, pipework, HVAC, public health and associated building services installations in accordance with the ITP and associated hold points.
Manage Witness Points: Coordinate and sign off on Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) alongside client representatives, giving adequate notice.
NCR Management: Raise, track, and close out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), identifying root causes to prevent recurrence in conjunction with the Quality Manager
Commissioning & Handover
Progressive Assurance: Ensure that the ITP process is handed over to the Commissioning Manager upon completion. This allows the CTP process to commence.
As-Built Documentation: Verify as-built drawings, O&M information, test records, equipment schedules and asset data contained in the ITP packs.
Defect Resolution: Manage the snagging process, ensuring zero defects at the point of sectional project completions
Purpose of the role: The Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer (Mechanical) will focus on the quality management system (QMS), executing progressive assurance and driving a ‘right first time’ delivery culture in a live, highly regulated airport environment. The purpose of this role is to support and be part of the £35 million MEPH (Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and HVAC) Infrastructure project at Heathrow Terminal 2. The QA Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all mechanical engineering installations meet clients standards, aviation regulations, statutory requirements, and project specifications.
