Job Overview
This is a foster care role where you provide care for children and young people in your own home.
Children in the Vale of Glamorgan need safe, stable, and caring homes where they can feel valued and thrive. At Foster Wales, we're looking for compassionate people who can open their home and provide the support, guidance, and encouragement young people need as they grow.
By becoming a foster carer, you'll offer a child or young person a safe place to live, helping them feel secure, build confidence, and reach their full potential.
What you need
To become a foster carer, you'll need:
- A spare bedroom in your home
- Time, patience, and openness
- A desire to support children and young people in your community
- A willingness to learn and take part in training and ongoing support
Why foster?
Fostering gives you the chance to make a real difference in a child's life. By providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment, you can help young people develop confidence, resilience, and stability while taking part in a rewarding and life-changing journey.
Who can apply?
We welcome applicants from all walks of life. You don't need specific qualifications. What matters most is empathy, resilience, and a commitment to supporting children and young people in your care.
Many people come to fostering with experience from other caring or people-focused roles, and we particularly value the skills gained in professions such as Teachers, Nursery Nurses and Nursery Practitioners, Counsellors, Nurses and Midwives, Educational Psychologists, Childcare Workers, Registered Managers, Social Workers, Substance Misuse Workers and Youth Workers.
If you've supported young people, families, or vulnerable individuals in any capacity, your skills are highly transferable and could help you become a successful foster carer.
Flexible ways to foster
Opening your home to a child doesn't always mean making a long-term commitment. There are different ways to foster, including:
- Short breaks
- Emergency care
