Heffernan Utilities is a growing utility infrastructure contractor, delivering high-quality services across the utilities sector. We work on a wide range of projects, providing excavation, reinstatement, traffic management and specialist utility services for major clients throughout the UK.
As our business continues to expand, so does our fleet. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Mobile Fleet Mechanic / Plant Fitter to join our team and play a key role in keeping our vehicles and plant operating safely, efficiently and reliably.
This is a varied role working both at our Brighouse depot and across our operational sites, maintaining our mixed fleet of vans, HGVs, trailers and construction plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs to company vehicles and plant.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
- Complete scheduled inspections, preventative maintenance and defect rectification.
- Attend on-site vehicle and plant breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely and to a high standard in accordance with company procedures and DVSA requirements.
- Maintain accurate service, inspection and repair records.
- Assist in ensuring fleet compliance with legal and safety requirements.
- Liaise with the Fleet Manager and operational teams to prioritise repairs and maximise fleet availability.
- Identify opportunities to improve vehicle reliability and preventative maintenance.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a commercial vehicle mechanic, HGV technician, plant fitter or fleet engineer.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working on a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles and/or construction plant.
- The ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively.
- A good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
- A full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
- Relevant mechanical qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent) are desirable but not essential for experienced applicants.
