Due to continued growth, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on innovative industrial equipment, develop your engineering skills and travel throughout the UK, Ireland and further afield.
The Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will help assemble, install, maintain and commission AIC's Waste-to-Energy and Thermal Treatment systems.
Working alongside our manufacturing, assembly and installation teams, you will contribute to the delivery of bespoke equipment incorporating conveyors, shredders, fans, pumps, gearboxes, burners, boilers, heat exchangers and pollution-control systems.
The role combines workshop-based assembly at our Armagh facility with installation and commissioning work at customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and install industrial machinery, mechanical components and process equipment.
- Carry out work at AIC's manufacturing facility and at customer sites in the UK, Ireland and overseas.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs and planned maintenance.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Assist with system installation, testing and commissioning.
- Fit and align components such as bearings, shafts, motors, pumps, gearboxes and conveyor systems.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets AIC's quality and performance standards.
- Work safely and maintain a high standard of workmanship at all times.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve equipment performance, reliability and build processes.
- Develop new skills as AIC's systems, technologies and manufacturing processes continue to evolve.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with industrial machinery, manufacturing equipment or process systems.
- Strong mechanical fitting, fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
- Equipment installation and commissioning.
- Experience with pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to developing technologies.
- A positive, practical attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- A strong awareness of workplace health and safety.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Boilers, heat exchangers, fans or combustion equipment.
- Manufacturing, recycling, energy, waste-management or process industries.
