Whixall Marina – Marina Operative

Based in spectacular countryside in North Shropshire, Whixall Marina features residential and visitor boat moorings, holiday accommodation, boating holidays, dry dock and café. We are now looking to appoint a Marina Operative for important position within our team to support day-to-day operations at the marina.
This is a hands-on role offering a huge amount of variety, with specific emphasis on delivering the safe, efficient and professional operations of the marina, dry dock, boatyard and boat hire fleet. You will ensure high standards of safety, presentation and customer care, while carrying-out tasks ranging from practical boat maintenance and handling to retail support and grounds upkeep.
Practical maintenance or trade experience and proficiency using hand and power tools are essential, and an interest in the boating industry is desirable. Equally important is a can-do attitude, adaptability and being a team player.

Working hours are 8.00am to 5.00pm, Tuesday to Saturday, plus on-call duties and flexibility is required in line with business needs.
What will the role involve?
· Preparing boats for arrival and conducting detailed customer handovers and practical tuition on boat handling and safety. Managing turnaround tasks including cleaning, refuelling and pump-outs.
· Assisting with safe docking/undocking of boats, jet wash-downs and hull preparation (pressure washing, descaling, sanding). Applying hull coatings including bitumen and epoxy systems.
· Performing basic plumbing, joinery and boat painting, including winterisation of fleet, recommissioning and workshop/dry dock organisation.
· Helping to co-ordinate all guest arrivals and departures, ensuring a professional welcome and providing site orientations.
· Performing general maintenance and repairs within the holiday lets, ensuring all facilities remain at a high standard and fit-for-purpose.
· Providing pump-out, fuel, gas and coal services. Supporting chandlery operations, processing sales transactions and assisting with stock management.
· Continually demonstrating a pleasant attitude to all residents and holiday guests, proactively supporting or escalating any concerns or queries to the Marina Manager.
· Maintaining the Marina environment to a high standard, including strimming, hedge trimming, weeding, litter collection and general site housekeeping.
· Providing flexible after-hours call-out cover and holiday cover on a rota basis for the hire fleet and on-site holiday lets, responding to urgent guest requirements or emergency maintenance issues.
· Moving boats safely within the Marina, assisting customers with mooring and maintaining upkeep of pontoons, jetties & walkways.
· Adhering to all health, safety and environmental procedures, including COSHH and risk assessments. Maintaining environmental standards to prevent pollution.
· Supporting the creation and work in line with all working practices as instructed by the Marina Manager.
· Performing any other duties as deemed appropriate to the role and as requested by the Marina Manager.
What are we looking for?
· Practical maintenance or trade experience and proficiency using hand and power tools. Experience in inland waterways or boat handling is highly desirable.
· Strong customer service orientation and good communication skills. Basic IT skills for processing transactions and administration.
· A proactive, flexible team player capable of working on their own initiative and remaining calm under pressure.
· Physically fit and capable of manual handling and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
· Licences: Full UK driving licence is essential.
