Cobbled Lane is an independent bookshop and deli in Culross, and we're building our team for the year ahead. This is a senior, hands-on role: you'll be our director's right hand — running the day-to-day and taking charge of the whole shop when she's off, from the bookshelves to the deli counter.
It's a genuinely varied day. A core part of it is our in-house food — you'll be the one baking and getting the deli prep done each morning, so you'll need to be comfortable and confident at the prep bench. Alongside that you'll serve across the counter, look after the bookshop and retail side, and set the tone for the team. Busy and varied, with a real summer rush and a loyal local trade the rest of the year. A few early starts each week for morning prep and baking.
This is a permanent role averaging around 35 hours a week, flexing with the seasons — busier in summer, quieter in winter.
Pay: £14/hour.
You'll suit this if you're warm and genuinely good with customers, reliable, calm under a busy rush, happy turning your hand to anything from baking to bookselling, and comfortable leading a shift. Previous supervisory and food-prep experience is a real plus.
