Purpose of the role
We are looking for a Franchise Development Manager to lead and support our expanding franchise network. This is a varied, people- and performance-focused role carrying a high degree of responsibility and accountability. It comprises core functions which include Franchisee Onboarding and Management — and, depending on company priorities through the year, will focus to a greater or lesser degree on each.
Franchise Onboarding
- Manage the onboarding process to ensure each new franchisee is fully trained on all non-bike-fitting business elements, working to a defined onboarding timeline with clear milestones.
- Initiate training on all aspects of the Operations Manual, so that each new franchisee has a good knowledge of the practices required for them to run their business in line with the franchise model.
- Monitor the Operations Manual so that it represents the franchise model at all times.
- Co-ordinate across departments and with external suppliers to launch a new franchise effectively.
- Set financial business targets with each incoming franchisee.
- Formulate a marketing launch plan for each new franchisee, setting out how they will build their business and hit their targets.
- Take an active role in updating franchisee training materials and support resources.
- Assist with securing and managing the legal and financial steps of the onboarding process.
Franchise Management
- Collect and manage KPI franchise performance data, reporting monthly to company directors and highlighting by exception where individual franchisees need additional support.
- Contribute to the formulation of group-wide targets, KPIs and objectives.
- Conduct annual review meetings with franchisees to assess the last 12 months and their plans for growth.
- Measure franchisee satisfaction and engagement, including running an annual franchisee survey, and act on the findings.
- Collect franchisees' local marketing plans — cycling clubs, events and networks — to help Central Office support the network.
- Communicate key Central Office messaging, ensuring each franchisee understands the priorities of the wider business.
- Contribute to the monthly franchisee wideSprint calls, identifying where franchisees need greater support to secure bookings.
- Performance-manage franchisees who fail to implement the activities required to hit their growth targets.
- Work with franchisees to increase booking volumes, including through cycling club membership, event exhibiting and local business referral networks.
- Develop ways of sharing best practice across the network, identifying high-performing advocates for key activities.
- Use financial data, including the KPIs, to ensure each franchisee understands their income mix across secondary spend, multiple-customer bike fits and affiliate schemes.
- Own network-wide compliance, ensuring franchise standards are met and regulatory obligations (including ICO data protection registration) are fulfilled across the network.
- Manage franchise agreement renewals and support franchisees through territory resales and exits.
- Own the integrity of the recruitment pipeline and KPI reporting systems and data.
- Contribute to the Annual Franchise Conference to create an impactful event and share best practice across the group.
- Feed insight from the network back into central business strategy.
Success measures
Performance in the role will be measured against effeciency with which new franchisees integrate within the network, the network's performance in accordance with the guidelines as set out in the company's Franchise Operations Manual plus the performance of the network's average weekly bookings.
Efficiency and Systems
As the franchise network grows, automation becomes increasingly important to the business. The role requires continually reviewing all operational and management processes — including the activities undertaken by franchisees themselves — to find efficiencies, using technology and automation to reduce time spent on repetitive activities and improve the quality and consistency of output.
