We are looking for an experienced air quality professional to play a key role in the continued growth of our international consultancy offering. Based from one of our UK offices with flexible hybrid working, you will join a globally connected team delivering innovative air quality solutions for some of the world's most ambitious development projects.
Working alongside our Global Air Quality Lead, you will support the expansion of our services across the Middle East, Africa and other emerging markets. The role offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise across a diverse portfolio of international masterplanning, infrastructure and environmental assessment projects, helping clients deliver healthier, more sustainable places at a range of scales.

Our Air Quality team sits within Buro Happold’s Environmental Consulting Discipline and forms an integral part of our UK+ Cities business. As we continue to expand our international air quality offering, we are seeking an experienced Senior Air Quality Consultant to help shape and deliver our growing portfolio of international work.
Based from one of our UK offices, you will play a key role in delivering air quality services across some of the world's most ambitious development and infrastructure projects. The role will involve leading and managing air quality inputs to large-scale masterplanning and urban development schemes, while also providing specialist technical expertise to Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA), Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) across the Middle East, Africa and other emerging markets.
Working alongside our Global Air Quality Lead, you will contribute to projects spanning a range of sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, energy and mixed-use developments. Our current portfolio includes several flagship projects across the Middle East, including major GIGA-projects such as Qiddiya, Diriyah Gate and EXPO, alongside strategic regional frameworks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
As part of a globally connected team, you will work directly with international clients, design teams and collaborators, taking responsibility for project delivery and contributing to the development of innovative air quality solutions that support healthier and more sustainable communities. The role also offers opportunities for international travel and direct engagement with projects at both city and regional scales.
Beyond project delivery, you will play an important role in the continued evolution of Buro Happold's international air quality services. This includes contributing to technical innovation, supporting work-winning activities, developing client relationships, mentoring junior team members and helping to expand our presence across both established and emerging international markets.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Experience delivering air quality inputs to major development, infrastructure or masterplanning projects, ideally in international markets.
- Experience supporting environmental assessments including ESIA, SEA or equivalent processes.
- Strong technical capability in atmospheric dispersion modelling using ADMS or AERMOD. And associate visualisation tools including QGIS.
- Ability to interpret technical data and communicate findings clearly to clients and project teams.
- Experience working directly with clients and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Knowledge of international air quality legislation, policy and best practice.
- Experience managing project delivery, programmes and budgets.
- A proactive approach to mentoring and developing junior staff.
- A collaborative mindset with an interest in business development and work winning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A degree in a relevant discipline and professional membership (or progress towards membership) of IAQM or an equivalent professional body.
Desirable
- Experience of IFC, EBRD or other lender standards.
- Experience in indoor air quality, LEED, WELL or Envision.
- Experience of odour, dust or ecological assessments.
- Experience contributing to regional plans, policies or frameworks.
