Trainee CNC/CAM Programmer
Yoke Vans (Yoke CNC Ltd) — Borehamwood, WD6 5PH £26,000 – £30,000 per year (salary reviewed as skills develop) Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
No CAM experience? No problem. We're looking for someone with genuine technical aptitude and the drive to learn a skilled trade from the ground up.
You'll train as a CNC/CAM Programmer, learning to prepare and manage the CAM files that drive our CNC machines. Our machines run continuously producing high-volume panel work and premium plywood van racking, so this role sits right at the heart of our production. You'll learn our software, our product systems, and our machining processes through on-the-job training, working alongside our design and production teams.
This is a real training role with a real destination: a skilled programming position in a growing company. We've developed people into technical roles before and we know how to do it well - but the initiative has to come from you.
What You'll Learn
- CAM programming: preparing and managing CAM files for CNC production.
- Nesting components efficiently to optimise material use and machine time.
- Working with our product systems and databases to set up standard and bespoke work.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings.
- CNC machining processes, tooling, and materials.
- How CAM setup connects to design and production across the business.
Who We're Looking For
You don't need CAM or CNC experience. You do need:
- Genuine technical aptitude - you're the sort of person who figures out how things work.
- Evidence of initiative: self-taught skills, hobby projects (CNC, 3D printing, woodworking, coding, anything you've built or made), or having experimented with design/CAM software. Fusion 360 is free for personal use - if you've tried it, tell us.
- Strong attention to detail - small errors in CAM files become big errors on the machine.
- Good computer literacy and comfort learning new software.
- A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to ask questions.
- Reliability and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
In your application, tell us about anything you've built, made, or taught yourself. That matters more to us than qualifications.
What We Offer
- Structured on-the-job training across our CAM and CNC systems.
- Salary reviewed as skills and competence develop.
- Company pension.
- Free on-site parking.
- The chance to build a skilled technical career in a fast-expanding company.
Work Schedule
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, on-site.
- Occasional weekend work may be required.
- Appointment is subject to a probationary period (six months).
