Chef – Steam Wine Bar
£14.50 per hour + tips | Full-time | City of London
The Opportunity
Steam Wine Bar is an ambitious independent venue in the heart of the City of London, and we’re looking for a talented Chef to join us as we enter an exciting new chapter.
This role would suit an experienced Chef de Partie, Junior Sous Chef, or similar who already has some experience taking responsibility in a kitchen and is ready to take the next step.
We’re not looking for someone to simply turn up, cook from a fixed spec and go home. We want someone who cares about fresh food, takes pride in their kitchen and has the potential to become an important part of Steam as the business grows.
You’ll work closely with the management team, have genuine input into our food offering and take responsibility within the kitchen, while having the opportunity to develop your leadership and commercial kitchen experience.
The Role
You’ll be a key member of our kitchen operation, helping to deliver consistently high-quality fresh food across our lunch service, corporate events, private dining and larger functions.
You’ll also take responsibility for the kitchen when required, helping maintain standards, organisation and a calm, professional service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook high-quality dishes using fresh ingredients
- Maintain excellent standards of food quality, consistency and presentation
- Take responsibility for kitchen service and organisation when required
- Help develop and improve dishes and menus alongside the management team
- Support ordering, stock rotation, stock control and waste management
- Maintain excellent food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards
- Help ensure all food safety records and procedures are completed correctly
- Support the preparation and delivery of food for corporate events, private dining and larger bookings
- Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service
- Help guide and support other members of the kitchen team
- Contribute ideas as Steam develops its food offering
About You
We’re more interested in potential, attitude and ability than job titles.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong experience working with fresh food in a professional kitchen
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Junior Sous Chef or similar
- Some experience taking responsibility for a kitchen or leading a service
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen compliance
- An organised and reliable approach to prep and service
- Confidence working independently when required
- An understanding of stock control, waste and food costs
- A genuine interest in developing dishes and improving the food offering
- Good communication skills and a positive approach to working with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
Food Safety qualifications and previous experience with EHO compliance would be advantageous.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone ambitious and ready for their next step.
Why Join Steam?
