About the Project
Emotional Emancipation Circles (EECs) is a new community-based mental wellbeing project supporting Black adults in Southwark through culturally responsive, supportive group sessions.
The project aims to create safe and welcoming spaces where participants can explore emotional well-being, identity, cultural heritage, self-care and resilience, while building meaningful connections with others in the community.
Sessions will provide participants with practical tools, shared learning and peer support to strengthen their emotional well-being and resilience.
About the Role
We are looking for a Workshop Facilitator to plan and deliver engaging, culturally responsive group sessions as part of the EECs programme.
The successful facilitator will create a warm, inclusive and psychologically safe environment where participants feel comfortable sharing their experiences, reflecting on their wellbeing and learning from one another.
This is a paid role and would suit someone with experience in group facilitation, community engagement, wellbeing, mental health, personal development, or culturally responsive practice.
Key Responsibilities
● Plan and deliver engaging EEC workshop sessions for Black adults in Southwark.
● Facilitate meaningful group discussions around emotional well-being, identity, culture, self-care and resilience.
● Create and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive group environment.
● Use culturally responsive and strengths-based approaches that recognise the experiences and identities of Black participants.
● Encourage participation, connection and peer support while respecting individual boundaries and different perspectives.
● Introduce practical tools, activities and techniques that participants can use to support their wellbeing.
● Respond appropriately to sensitive conversations and maintain clear professional boundaries.
● Be aware of safeguarding responsibilities and follow relevant organisational policies and procedures.
● Work collaboratively with the project team to ensure sessions meet the aims of the programme.
● Provide brief feedback and reflections following sessions to support ongoing learning and evaluation.
Workshop Themes
Sessions may explore areas including:
● Emotional wellbeing – understanding and expressing emotions, managing stress and recognising our wellbeing needs.
● Identity and cultural heritage – exploring identity, belonging, culture, heritage and lived experience.
● Self-care and resilience – developing sustainable self-care practices and strategies for navigating challenges.
● Peer support – building connection, trust and community within a safe and supportive group environment.
● Practical wellbeing tools – developing accessible strategies that participants can use in everyday life.
What We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in people who have:
● Experience facilitating groups, workshops or community-based sessions.
● Experience working with Black communities and/or an understanding of culturally responsive practice.
● Strong communication and active listening skills.
● The ability to create a welcoming, respectful and psychologically safe group environment.
● Confidence facilitating conversations around emotional well-being and lived experience.
● An understanding of appropriate professional boundaries when discussing sensitive topics.
● A strengths-based, non-judgemental and person-centred approach.
● The ability to engage participants with different experiences, perspectives and levels of confidence.
A formal mental health qualification is not necessarily required, depending on the facilitator's experience. We welcome applications from community practitioners, wellbeing practitioners, counsellors, coaches, peer facilitators, artists, educators and others with relevant facilitation experience.

Payment
The Workshop Facilitator will be paid £15 per hour, with preparation time and any agreed additional responsibilities paid at an agreed rate.This role includes 2 hours of facilitation and 3 hours of preparation time every week.
