# Pharmacy Delivery Driver Job Description
Overview
We are looking for a reliable, friendly, and safety-conscious Pharmacy Delivery Driver to join our community pharmacy team. The role involves delivering prescription medicines and pharmacy products to patients’ homes, care settings, and other agreed locations in a timely, professional, and confidential manner.
As a visible representative of the pharmacy, the successful candidate will provide excellent customer service while ensuring medicines are transported, handled, and delivered securely in accordance with pharmacy procedures, confidentiality requirements, and relevant health and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Deliver prescriptions and pharmacy products safely, accurately, and within agreed delivery times.
- Check delivery paperwork, addresses, and patient details before leaving the pharmacy.
- Obtain proof of delivery, including signatures or electronic confirmation where required.
- Handle medicines securely and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Follow procedures for items requiring special storage, including refrigerated products where applicable.
- Return undelivered items, paperwork, cash, and any relevant information to the pharmacy promptly.
- Report failed deliveries, incorrect addresses, patient concerns, damaged items, accidents, or vehicle issues to the responsible pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
- Maintain clear communication with pharmacy staff regarding delivery routes, urgent items, and changes to schedules.
- Carry out basic vehicle safety checks, including fuel levels, tyre condition, lights, and cleanliness.
- Keep the delivery vehicle clean, presentable, and secure.
- Follow all road traffic laws, pharmacy standard operating procedures, health and safety policies, and infection-control measures.
- Provide a polite and helpful service to patients, carers, and care-home staff, escalating medicine-related queries to a pharmacist or trained member of the pharmacy team.
- Assist with general pharmacy duties between deliveries where appropriate, such as organising delivery bags, sorting returned items, or maintaining records.
Skills and Requirements
- Full, valid UK driving licence with a good driving record.
- Confident and safe driver with good knowledge of local roads and surrounding areas.
- Excellent reliability, punctuality, and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when checking patient names, addresses, and delivery documentation.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and discreetly.
- Friendly, professional, and respectful manner when dealing with patients, including elderly or vulnerable individuals.
- Ability to work independently while remaining in regular communication with the pharmacy team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to plan efficient delivery routes.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills for completing delivery records and following written instructions.
- Physically able to load, carry, and deliver pharmacy bags and small parcels safely.
- Willingness to follow pharmacy procedures and complete any required training.
- Previous delivery, customer service, care, or pharmacy experience is desirable but not essential.
Working Conditions
This role may involve variable working hours depending on delivery demand, including occasional urgent or same-day deliveries. The postholder will spend most of their working day travelling locally and interacting with patients and members of the public.
A DBS check may be required depending on the pharmacy’s policies and the nature of the delivery work.
Pay: £13.00 per hour
