Part-Time Ice Cream Cart Assistant – Friday to Sunday
Overview
We’re a family-run artisan gelato and coffee business based in Derby Market Hall, and we’re looking for friendly and reliable assistants to run our ice cream cart in Derbion Shopping Centre.
We’re passionate about quality gelato and creating a warm, welcoming experience for every customer. This role would suit someone who enjoys speaking to people, takes pride in keeping their workspace looking great and is confident working independently.
This is initially a two-month fixed-term role for August and September, with the possibility of extension.

Working Hours
The Derbion opening hours will be divided between a morning and an afternoon shift. Applicants may apply for either shift pattern or indicate that they are available for both.
Morning shift – approximately 17.5 hours per week
- Friday: 8:00am to 1:30pm
- Saturday: 8:45am to 1:30pm
- Sunday: 10:15am to 5:30pm
Afternoon shift – approximately 12 hours per week
- Friday: 1:30pm to 7:30pm
- Saturday: 1:30pm to 7:30pm
The morning shifts include preparing the cart before opening, while the afternoon shifts include closing and cleaning the cart at the end of the day.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Serving our artisan gelato
- Creating a warm and welcoming experience for customers
- Taking payments and using the till
- Keeping the ice cream cart clean, organised and inviting throughout the shift
- Restocking cones, cups, gelato and other supplies
- Following food hygiene and allergen procedures
- Opening or closing the cart, depending on your shift
Skills
- Previous hospitality or customer-facing experience
- Friendly and confident customer service skills
- Reliable and comfortable working independently
- A passion for quality food, drink and hospitality
- Willingness to learn about artisan gelato
- Flexible, proactive attitude and good team spirit
Even Better If
- You have barista or coffee-making experience
- You have previous experience working in a café
- You have flexibility to occasionally cover shifts at our Derby Market Hall shop
Pay
£13.00–£14.00 per hour, depending on experience.
