About the people and their home
Woodview Road offers a unique service to the nine people who live there. While registered as a care home it is still very much a place people and their families can call home.
The people living at Woodview are a diverse group of people all who have more than one disability, the most significant being a profound learning disability as well as other disabilities including.

Physical impairments, such as cerebral palsy, which may severely restrict mobility or posture.

Sensory impairments, like difficulties with sight, hearing, or sensory processing.

Communication impairments. Most people use non-verbal communication to let people know how they are feeling, their preferences, likes and dislikes.

Complex health needs, such as epilepsy, difficulties with swallowing (dysphagia).
The homes believes that everyone is unique and are committed to supporting people to express this, have connections, joy, and great activities in their life.
One of the parents of someone living at Woodview says that the people that support their daughter need
‘To see that her unique abilities, interests and character are not defined by her disability. That her support team need to recognise that her enjoyment of life can be enhanced by the simplest of things such as a positive encouragement, anticipating her need for reassurance or a comforting gesture.’
When asked what makes a great Woodview support worker they said…
‘ A people person, we all need to find our people in life and these individuals are no different. We need support workers who see these individuals as someone who would naturally be part of their world, not necessarily as friends but part of their extended community and someone they would want to look out for. Skills such as emotional intelligence and an empathetic nature are key skills.’
We support people being active, out and about in the community. Exploring and researching great activities that fit with people’s needs and sense of fun as well as being present and playing a role in their community.
