This role will be remote requiring a high degree of self-motivation and autonomy.
The Position
Allume is seeking a Solar PV Service and Support Engineer with practical, hands-on installation experience to join our growing UK-based technical team. This position is ideal for an experienced PV installer, electrician, or field technician looking to transition into a technical, office-based role.
In this position, you will be using your field expertise to handle complex remote troubleshooting, provide technical consultation to installers and engineering consultants, and lead pre-installation training and design checks.
This role offers high autonomy and a clear pathway for growth, from technical leadership to client-facing application engineering roles supporting top consultancy and construction firms.
Key responsibilities
· Pre-Installation Support: Review single-line diagrams, system designs and plans prior to installation. Provide installers with training and key tips to ensure a successful delivery.
· Remote Troubleshooting: Diagnose on-site issues, communicate professionally and calmly with installers via the phone, coordinate repairs and meticulously log all details of support cases.
· Ticket Management: Manage, prioritise, and document incoming technical support requests within our ticketing system, ensuring field issues are tracked, analysed, and resolved within established SLAs.
What we’re looking for:
· Field Experience: Hands-on background as a solar installer, electrician, field technician or field support (minimum 2 years in a customer-facing, field-based role).
· Electrical Knowledge: Demonstrable, strong electrical knowledge, supported by professional electrical qualifications.
· Problem-Solver: Practical, diagnostic mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and hardware issues remotely.
· Communication & Tech Literacy: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable using ticketing systems, and confident representing Allume on-site when required.
· Self-Motivated: Organised, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment.
· Driving License: Full UK driving license (for occasional UK site visits).
