A Unique Opportunity
This is a unique role for the right candidate, offering a varied and rewarding workload that combines both SMART repair and insurance-approved refinishing work.
The successful applicant will primarily be based within our bodyshop but will also be required to provide holiday and absence cover across our on-site SMART repair pod and mobile SMART repair van. This variety offers an excellent opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and gain experience across multiple areas of vehicle repair and refinishing.
The role would be particularly well suited to an experienced Mobile SMART Repair Technician looking to take the next step in their career and progress into larger-scale insurance repair and paintwork. You'll have the opportunity to work on everything from minor cosmetic repairs through to full panel and insurance-approved refinishing, providing valuable career development and long-term progression within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting through cleaning, sanding, filling, and masking.
- Accurately mix paints, primers, and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and colour codes.
- Operate spray-painting equipment and associated tools to achieve smooth, consistent finishes.
- Apply paint, lacquer, and protective coatings while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Inspect completed work for defects, imperfections, or inconsistencies and carry out touch-ups where required.
- Undertake minor surface repairs and preparation work as necessary.
- Carry out SMART repairs where required, including bumper scuffs, scratches, and localised paint repairs.
- Provide holiday and absence cover within our on-site SMART repair pod and mobile SMART repair van.
- Maintain painting equipment and ensure tools are used safely and correctly.
- Follow all health and safety procedures to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Assist with the movement and handling of vehicle parts and equipment when required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet workshop deadlines and customer expectations.
RequirementsEssential
- Proven experience as an Automotive Spray Painter, Vehicle Refinisher, or SMART Repair Technician.
- Experience carrying out high-quality paint repairs, blending, and refinishing work.
- Ability to prepare, prime, paint, and finish panels to a high standard.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle paint preparation, application, and finishing techniques.
- Experience using spray guns, sanding equipment, polishing equipment, grinders, and other workshop tools.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering first-class workmanship.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices within a workshop environment.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working across the bodyshop, SMART pod, and mobile repair van when required.
- Physically capable of lifting and moving vehicle parts and equipment safely.
Desirable
- Previous experience operating a mobile SMART repair van.
- Experience within an insurance-approved accident repair centre or bodyshop.
- Knowledge of colour matching, blending, and advanced paint correction techniques.
- ATA, NVQ, IMI, or equivalent automotive refinishing qualifications.
