Job Role: Inspection Technician
Location: Starna Scientific - 52-54 Fowler Road, Hainault, Essex, IG6 3UT.
Pay: Starting £13.00 per hour, scope to increase at 6,12, & 15 months
Hours: 39.75 hours per week (Mon-Thur 0800:1645 Fri 0800:1515)

Role Overview
The Inspection Technician plays a critical part in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and consistency of Starna Scientific’s high‑precision optical components. Working within a clean, organised inspection environment, the role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to identify flaws in both raw materials and finished products.
You will work closely with the production teams (Polishing, Roughing, Fusing) and report directly to the QHSE Manager, supporting Starna’s commitment to world‑class quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Component Inspection — Examine optical glass components for defects, imperfections, contamination, or dimensional inaccuracies.
- Measurement & Verification — Use calipers, verniers, and other precision tools to confirm measurements against specification.
- Clean Work Practices — Maintain a tidy, organised inspection area in line with QHSE expectations.
- Collaboration — Communicate effectively with production teams to highlight issues, trends, or recurring defects.
- Continuous Improvement — Support quality initiatives, suggest improvements, and contribute to process refinement.

- Hand‑Eye Coordination — Steady hands and precise control for handling delicate optical components.
- Attention to Detail — Ability to spot even minor flaws, scratches, chips, or inconsistencies.
- Measurement Competency — Confident using verniers, calipers, and basic dimensional tools.

Desirable Background
- Fine Detail Work — Experience in jewellery making, crafting, model making, or other precision‑based roles.
- Manufacturing Experience — Exposure to inspection, quality control, or technical production environments.
- Optical or Glass Knowledge — Advantageous but not essential; full training provided.
Reporting Line
You will report directly to the QHSE Manager and work closely with inspection, production, and quality teams.
