Balfour Beatty Living Places – Southampton

Balfour Beatty Living Places is looking for a talented Design Engineer to join our Southampton team. You'll play a key role in designing and delivering a wide range of highway and transport improvement schemes that make a real difference to local communities.
Working within a collaborative team of engineers and technicians, you'll contribute to the development of safe, sustainable and inclusive transport solutions, including:
- Walking and cycling infrastructure
- Bus priority schemes
- Highway safety improvements
- Public realm enhancements
- Urban regeneration projects
Projects range from smaller local improvements through to major transformation schemes valued at up to £10 million.
What you'll be doing
- Deliver technically compliant civil and highway engineering designs.
- Take responsibility for the technical delivery of allocated projects.
- Work closely with Design Managers, Senior Engineers and project stakeholders.
- Coordinate and manage inputs from internal teams and third-party consultants.
- Monitor project programmes and support the successful delivery of design outputs.
- Prepare design estimates and support project fee proposals.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, CDM regulations and Balfour Beatty policies.
- Engage with clients, local authorities, stakeholders and the public throughout project development.
- Support continuous improvement and identify opportunities to enhance service delivery.
Who we're looking for
- Civil or Highway Engineering degree (or equivalent)
- Experience in highway or transport infrastructure design
- Knowledge of relevant design standards and CDM Regulations
- Strong project delivery and programme management skills
- Stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Working towards or holding IEng/CEng status (desirable)
