Peace of Mind, a service of Cumbernauld YMCA, is looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and motivated Child Care Assistant (Practitioner Level) to join our team. About the Role
As a Child Care Assistant, you will help provide a welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children can learn, play, and develop confidence. Working alongside the Team Leader and wider childcare team, you will support a range of planned and child-led activities while ensuring the highest standards of care and safeguarding.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Play and Learning
- Create a warm, safe, and nurturing environment for children.
- Support engaging play and learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors.
- Encourage children to participate in planning activities and sharing ideas.
- Promote positive behaviour, good citizenship, and inclusion.
- Act as a positive role model for children and young people.
- Encourage responsibility by supporting children to tidy up and care for their environment.
Safeguarding and Health & Safety
· Ensure all play areas and equipment are safe and free from hazards.
· Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
· Report any concerns regarding child welfare, safety, or poor practice promptly.
· Support safe transport and walking procedures when accompanying children.
Administration and Teamwork
· Maintain accurate records, registers, and documentation.
· Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and professional standards.
· Respect confidentiality and data protection requirements.
· Compile child plans & review.
· Contribute to child progress observations and parent feedback.
· Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
· Support the wider childcare service and undertake additional duties when needed.
Essential Skills and Qualities
We are looking for someone who:
- Has good reading, writing, and IT skills.
- Is self-motivated and reliable.
- Enjoys being active and engaging with children both indoors and outdoors.
- Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children.
Qualifications/Wage
Applicant will hold an SVQ 3 Children and Young People (SCQF Level 7) qualification.
Applicants without this qualification may still be considered depending on current staffing requirements and applicants experience.
Wage: £ 12.71-£13.47
Hours: 16 per week.
