Classroom-based Disability Support Worker
Sense Education is hiring for a specialist school in Leeds, seeking two individuals to join their team as a Classroom-based Disability Support Worker. This long-term temporary role offers a chance to work closely with pupils who have profound and multiple learning difficulties in a warm, structured, and well-resourced environment. What the role involves
As a Classroom-based Disability Support Worker, you’ll play a key role in helping pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) access their learning in a way that suits them. The children you'll support often have complex physical, sensory, and communication needs—your calm, patient presence will make a real difference each day.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils with severe or profound learning difficulties during classroom activities.
- Providing respectful and dignified support with personal care, feeding, and mobility.
- Using sensory tools, communication aids, and structured routines to promote engagement.
- Encouraging emotional regulation and positive behaviour in a nurturing environment.
- Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and fellow support staff to deliver consistent, individualised support.

- Minimum qualifications required A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or a background in education or care (NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent)
- Have experience working with individuals with disabilities or complex needs.
- Hold a relevant qualification in care, health and social care, social work, or a related field.
- Be confident supporting personal care and using non-verbal communication strategies.
- Stay calm, dependable, and empathetic in a team-based, child-centred environment.
- Genuinely want to help children learn, grow, and feel safe at school.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
