Manufacturing Technician / Machine Operator
Triple shift working pattern
Monday to Friday
Average 37.5-hour working week

Walstead Binders is a busy, fast-paced manufacturing site producing high-quality magazines, brochures and other printed products for a wide range of customers.
We’re looking for the right person, not just the right experience.
We are looking for a practical, curious and mechanically minded individual to join our team. While experience of book binding or print finishing would be an advantage, it is not essential. What matters most to us is finding someone who enjoys understanding how things work, is good at finding faults and takes pride in getting the best from machinery.
You might already have experience operating and setting machinery in a manufacturing environment, or you may have developed strong practical and mechanical skills in another industry. If you are someone who naturally wants to investigate a problem rather than simply report it, we would like to hear from you.
The role
This is a hands-on position working within a small, self-contained manufacturing site, with the support and resources of the wider Walstead Group behind us.
You will be responsible for helping to ensure our production lines run safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. The role will involve operating and setting machinery, carrying out routine operator maintenance and, importantly, identifying and resolving issues when things don't go as expected.

What we're looking for
We're particularly interested in people who have:
- Experience of working with machinery in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- A natural ability to fault-find and problem solve
- Curiosity and a genuine desire to understand how machinery and processes work
- A practical, hands-on approach
- The confidence to investigate problems and find solutions
- Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
- The ability to work at pace without compromising safety or quality
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
- A willingness to learn and develop new skills
Previous experience of perfect binding or print finishing would be useful, but it is not a requirement. Full training will be provided to the right candidate.
What you'll be doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Setting and operating production machinery in accordance with works instructions
- Monitoring machinery and production output to ensure quality and efficiency
- Identifying, investigating and resolving machine and production issues
- Carrying out operator-level maintenance and routine machine upkeep
- Ensuring health and safety requirements are followed
- Maintaining quality standards throughout the production process
- Working with colleagues to keep production moving and meet delivery deadlines
- Looking for ways to improve how we work and making practical suggestions where appropriate
