As an Asset Engineer in Electrical & Plant (E&P), you'll play a key role in managing the renewal and enhancement of assets across the region. Your responsibilities will include inspecting and prioritising renewal proposals, developing schemes to meet Network Rail's goals, and ensuring projects are delivered to specification from design through to handover.
You'll set and audit acceptance criteria for E&P engineering works, maintain accurate asset records, and work closely with other asset management teams to optimise engineering activity across the railway system.
In addition, you'll contribute to national programmes through engineering verification, incident investigations, and asset condition inspections, helping to build a reliable and sustainable renewals workbank.
This position can be based anywhere within the West Coast South Route eg. Stafford, Birmingham, Rugby. Milton Keynes, Euston.
As an Asset Engineer in Electrical & Plant (E&P), you'll play a key role in shaping and managing renewal proposals for inclusion in the E&P engineering workbank. You will support the development of the national business plan, ensuring projects align with Network Rail's goals and long-term strategy.
Your responsibilities will include developing and supporting renewal and enhancement schemes through design, implementation, and delivery, making sure requirements are correctly interpreted and outcomes meet the project remit. You'll also set and audit acceptance criteria for E&P works, covering design approval, equipment acceptance, and handback to maintenance.
Key accountabilities include:
- Inspecting, prioritising, and managing renewal proposals within the E&P discipline.
- Collaborating with asset management teams to optimise engineering activity and resolve critical technical issues.
- Maintaining accurate 'as-built' asset records for E&P systems.
- Leading and supporting engineering verification, incident investigations, and asset condition inspections to inform the renewals workbank.
- Escalating issues of national significance to the wider engineering team.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
Essential
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
- Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution
- Significant [Discipline] engineering experience, particularly related to renewals and enhancements
- Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
- Knowledge of policy and standards relating to [Discipline] engineering
- Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain
Desirable
- Degree in a relevant subject
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
- An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
- Knowledge of investment processes and procedures, including relevant computer systems
- Knowledge of project management techniques
