Advanced Support Worker
Job Purpose
To implement support plans by directly providing practical, physical, social, and emotional support to service users. To create a supportive atmosphere in which service users can grow, develop, feel safe and can achieve maximum independent living skills. To follow Cumbria Quality Cares policies and procedures.

The registered manager – Chloe Gallagher
Main Activities
You will be required to provide caring, responsive, nurturing care for service users within their own home, ensuring that the service user's physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and cultural needs are met. Service users you support will have a variety of needs such as support relating to physical disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairments, learning disabilities, autism, social, emotional, and behavioural support needs.
Following all relevant regulations and legislation, including The Care Standards Act and Health and Social Care Act.
Specific Duties
- Providing a warm, caring, supportive and secure environment where service users can feel free from harm.
- Helping service users develop.
- Following service user’s individual support plans and risk assessments.
- Teaching daily living skills like budgeting, shopping, and claiming benefits.
- Helping service users develop independent living skills.
- Monitoring service user's progress.
- Supporting service users to grow, develop, feel safe and thrive.
- Supporting service users to access the local community.
- Supporting service users to regulate and understand their emotions.
- Support service users to manage their behaviour.
- Support service users to engage in family contact, (if appropriate).
- Supporting service users to lead active, healthy lives.
- Support service user’s relationships with friends and other professionals.
- Support service users to make choices and identifying risks within choices.
- Communicating effectively with service users, multi-disciplinary teams and Cumbria Quality Care.
- Keeping accurate, factual written accounts of your time with the service users.
- Following the Cumbria Quality Care policies and procedures.
- Observing and following the Cumbria Quality Care health and safety policy.
- To actively oppose discriminatory practises. Personal Care
Your duties may include supporting young people with:
- Washing and bathing
- Assisting to shave
- Mouth care
- Assisting service users to dress and undress.
- Pressure area care
- Catheter Care
- Emptying colostomy bags
- Management of incontinence
- Moving and Handling
- Medication administration.
Knowledge & Expertise
- General health and social care experience.
- Ideally some experience supporting service users within their own homes in a supported living setting.
- Ideally diploma Health and Social Care level 2 or above.
Essential Requirements
- An enhanced disclosure with the Criminal Records Bureau.
- Two suitable references.
