Design the Data Infrastructure Behind Tomorrow’s Business
We’re looking for a Senior Database Architect to shape how critical business data is structured, secured, accessed, and scaled. This is a senior technical role for someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges and wants a direct influence on technology strategy.
You’ll work across database architecture, cloud platforms, data modelling, performance, security, and modernization, partnering with engineering and business teams to build resilient data environments.
Your Impact
- Design scalable database architectures for enterprise applications and data platforms.
- Define database standards, patterns, governance, and technical roadmaps.
- Lead database modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
- Design high-availability, disaster recovery, replication, and backup strategies.
- Develop logical and physical data models for complex business requirements.
- Optimize database performance, indexing, queries, storage, and resource utilization.
- Work with engineering teams to improve application and database architecture.
- Establish security controls covering access, encryption, auditing, and sensitive data.
- Support cloud database technologies across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Evaluate database technologies and recommend solutions based on scalability, performance, security, and cost.
- Investigate complex database issues and provide architectural recommendations.
- Produce architecture diagrams, technical specifications, standards, and documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor database engineers and administrators.
What You’ll Need
- Significant experience in database architecture, database engineering, or a closely related senior technical role.
- Strong expertise with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar enterprise databases.
- Advanced SQL and database performance-tuning capabilities.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, warehousing, integration, and database design principles.
- Experience designing cloud-based database solutions.
- Knowledge of HA/DR technologies, replication, clustering, backup, and recovery.
- Strong understanding of database security, governance, access management, and data protection.
- Experience with automation and scripting using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and modern data platforms.
- Strong architecture documentation and technical communication skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and problem-solving abilities.
- Relevant certifications in AWS, Azure, Oracle, Microsoft, or database technologies are desirable.
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
